Radical: All the Contradictions of Jadwiga Staniszkis

Jadwiga Staniszkis could, with a single sentence, upend not only perceptions of political systems but also shatter the peace of her interlocutor. Her analyses were sharper than many revolutions, and her private lives more complex than the political transformation she described.

This biography shows Staniszkis across the full spectrum: from a March '68 rebel to a sociological icon, from a woman with a brilliant mind to someone who, as many close to her said, "sometimes saw too much" and always spoke out about it.

The author guides us through Staniszkis's academic ideas, her media clashes, and her complex relationships and friendships—particularly with Jarosław Kaczyński. He interviews Piotr Gliński, Mateusz Morawiecki, Leszek Balcerowicz, Ryszard Bugaj, and Aleksandra Jasińska-Kania, creating a portrait of a person who defies categorization. A woman who, instead of legitimizing stability, preferred to destabilize stability.

This is a book for those who like sharp minds, unconventional biographies, and heroines who defy convention.

Staniszkis was the first researcher in Poland to prove that sociology can be an extreme sport.

Witkacy and Women: The Metaphysical Herem

author: Małgorzata Czyńska

He wasn't monogamous, wasn't faithful, didn't promise love until the grave. He didn't understand the word "betrayal." He valued the brotherhood of souls as much as the pleasures of the flesh.

An extraordinary writer, painter, and scandalmonger, but also an exceptional womanizer. Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz had a twinkle in his eye, a great weakness for the fair sex, and an equally fierce temperament. Aristocrats and young ladies, actresses and serious matrons. Demonic and submissive. Known today from the pages of his novels, painted portraits, photographs, and... letters to his wife. He loved and portrayed them all. Eugenia Wyszomirska, Ewa Tyszkiewiczówna, Irena Solska, Helena Czerwijowska, Jadwiga Janczewska, Zofia Żeleńska (wife of "Boy"), Maria Pawlikowska née Kossak, and, of course, Nena Stachurska. His wife, Nina—simultaneously the closest and the most distant—also had to accept them all. The history of Witkacy's relationships with women not only allows us to trace the turbulent vicissitudes of his life and marriage but also to deeply understand the artist's rich personality.

In a new, updated edition of the book about women in Witkacy's life, Małgorzata Czyńska reveals the secrets of his biography and work – helping us read between the lines and see the history immortalized in his famous paintings.
