About the Library
One of the largest Polish libraries outside Poland, it was founded in 1942. It specializes in collecting emigration publications. Its collection includes emigration and domestic publications with a humanities focus, Polish literature, Conradians, manuscripts, archives of private individuals and emigration institutions and organizations, emigration and domestic periodicals, newsletters and announcements of emigration organizations, underground publications, maps, sheet music, photographs, paintings, and drawings. The library also collects documents on the social life of emigration (invitations, one-offs, event programs, exhibition catalogs, posters, and more).
The Library is a member of the Standing Conference of Polish Museums, Archives and Libraries in the West – MAB and Council for Slavonic and East European Library and Information Services – COSEELIS.
The library is the seat of The Joseph Conrad Society (UK).
